If genocide is ok, your death is ok
Many nations and people support genocidal regimes to ensure they retain power in that region, but what does supporting genocide really mean?
Genocide is the deliberate erasing of the cultural existence of a peoples, usually by suppression of their culture, expulsion from their homelands, mass incarceration, or mass murder. It became a crime after the actions of the Nazis in eliminating Jews, Roma and a lot of other minorities from Europe during WWII. The genocide we are now all quite familiar with is that of the Palestinians by the state of Israel, if only because we have seen the live streaming of the destruction of all the buildings in the Gaza strip, despite an almost total blackout by Western media.
So why do people want to genocide another group of people? Usually that is because they want someone to blame for their own failure to have the life that they want for themselves. It is usually rooted in deep prejudices sometimes occurring over centuries, but is essentially arbitrary in nature as instead of judging each individual at face value, it involves a blanket judgement of a supposed homogenous group of people. And it is that arbitrariness that sets a dangerous precedent for those discriminating to eventually become victims.
The reasoning is that if a person advocates for genocide, they are effectively saying it is alright to judge people as being unworthy of existence, purely on the basis of some perceived group identity. The problem with that is that it then gives anyone else permission to nominate any group as being unworthy of existence, which can include anyone advocating genocide. Of course, those who advocate for genocide may argue for their own prejudices being more important than someone else's, but that only works if they can prevent others from genociding them.
Most nations only get away with genocide because other nations allow them to because they obtain some benefit from having that nation remain as is, despite their murdering. Israel is allowed to genocide Palestinians because Western governments gain some hegemony in the Middle East by having a nation there that sees themselves as an outpost of Western culture in the region. It works because Israel was set up with the help of Great Britain and the US as a colonial project with the express goal of eliminating the native population.
Many European nations that were fearful of losing their own colonial hegemony in the region decided to also protect Israel, leading to the absurdity of Germany, supposedly trying to repair its image from the Nazi genocide of Jews by protecting Israel in its genociding of Palestinians. It is as if nothing has been learned from WWII other than that genocide is somehow legitimate when it suits the perpetrators and their enabling nations. The situation continues because most nations have a past or present that relies upon similar arbitrary discrimination to keep their own citizens under control.
Like people, nations will not stand up for what is right until they come to terms with their own past and move past their guilt. It takes courage but it brings a freedom that no amount of guilt or blind enabling can bring, so they will either remain silent or double-down on their support, often framing it as some innate right that the offending nation has to defend itself, despite the unfairness of how it came to be, and that those oppressed cannot really defend themselves. Genocidal nations are basically terrorist states against a part of their own people.
The real problem here is that genocide only works by violence, and at some point, such states can be threatened by a greater violence, as happened in WWII to Germany, but it still took six years. Even then, it was not so much about their genocide but that they wanted to take over all their neighbours for the glory of the Aryan race.
While it is not as definitive as an all out war, many in the nations supporting genocidal nations are protesting about that support as it is obvious that there is significant corruption underlying it, particularly by paid-off politicians under the influence of lobby groups financed by the genocidal nations. What is obvious is that corruption is permeating the whole political systems of nations to the point of being detrimental to its citizens and their civil rights, as in the political support for fossil fuel companies, despite their products killing more than 5.3 million people a year.
We saw a lot of support for the killer of the UnitedHealthcare CEO, as many thought that it was unfair that the killer of a person that allows mass suffering and death is treated worse than their victim and people like them. When mass-murderers are lauded, and nothing is done to stop them, expect more to finally crack and take them out. Terrorism takes over when justice and fairness is denied. It is only the selfishness propaganda the people are fed with that allows them to turn a blind eye, but that will not fool all the people all the time, and so a reckoning will come.
